Quality of video is OK but not great. Controls are not the most convenient either. Note that there are adapters converting the much less expensive microSD to Memory Stick but I have try it on the TG1.

I think Sanyo is more worth to buy hence they have develped this type of handycam for a while. The technology should be mature. :)

I haven't used these HD model before. My experience with previous model (the water-proof one) is negative though.

Key annoyances are:

1. The LCD is not bright enough - I can't see the picture clearly under water, under bright Sun or when my color google is on. You better put on a clear glass google for best viewing (which I don't have).

Do try it under bright light environment to test out the LCD. You need it for taking movies because of its hand-held design.

2. Every start/stop action creates a separate movie file. That is very troublesome when reviewing past footages on the device. Traditional DV continues from your last stop which is more convenient and natural in my opinion. You use this device for a day and you end up with many movie files. These are not like JPEG pictures which can be easily browsed through. I am forced to spend time in putting them into a long and meaningful movie for easy viewing and sharing. That's a tiring work to me.

3. The hand-held style sounds good on paper. But it actually doesn't work well in action - at least not on me. So try it out and see if you like it.

Also, pay attention to the control button size. If possible, try them with your ski glove to see if they are big enough to feel and touch. My Cannon DC has a very clever and protective design on its power-on button that I need to remove my ski glove before I can use it (and turn it off) - stupid me in checking it out !

Just my two cents.

just checked the users' comments, seems Xacti HD1000 is better than HD1010.

Have experience in using the semi-HD model only, the 720p Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD700.

The H.264 MPEG 4 movie is okay. Good for taking skiing clip for later review. Don't expect too much (at least better than prevailing DCs). The button arrangements are also reasonable.

However, the quality of photo is terrible (though it has 700 million pixels). Many noises under low light condition.

I bought it 2 last FRI finally and tried to shot our tennis practice over the weekend. Playback quality of Full HD at 60 fps and 30 fps are good! :) battery also very long lasting under normal temperature (We shot continuously over a hour, it still ok). Due to original focal range is not wide enough, I have to buy an extra wide angle adapter to extend it to 17 mm. :D
