The dollar thirsty American have done it again!

Starting 15th June, American Airlines will charge passengers who check bags at the airport with a US$15 fee for the first piece of luggage and US$25 for the second.

As usual, budget travelers will be hit hardest by the extra fees, while business and first-class passengers won't be affected.

International travellers will not be affected, yet, but those traveling to Canada will.

So what to expect - everyone is bound to experience bigger delays boarding flights because passengers will desperately try to carry bigger carry-on bags with them, then stuff them into jammed overhead storage space.

Let's hope other airlines will not follow.

Following the footstep of American Airlines, if you purchase a United Airlines economy ticket on or after 13th June, 2008 for travel on or after 18th August, 2008, a $15 service fee will apply, each way, to check your first piece of baggage. This fee applies to travel within the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada.

US Airways has just announced they will do it too. :(
