Just read today's New Zealand Herald newspaper and that is the heading of today's paper.

According to the newspaper, the major ski field will cost NZ$99 per lift ticket per day in Queenstown area. It is more expensive than most of the world class ski field. However, the ski fields are no way near as big as any other major ski resorts.

But I guess we don't have much choices in South Atmosphere?!:(

Treble Cone's lift pass cost a whopping 99 NZD!!!
That rivals lift pass in Colorado US!

Coronet Peak come to a close second with 93 NZD per day

The remarkables is 87 NZD per day

And last but not least Cardrona Apline Resort cost 83 NZD which is the cheapest pass among the major commercial ski field in the southern lake district

Yes, but it is still cheaper than Australia, NZ$99 is about A$79 at today's rate.

My family just spent 2 weeks ski holiday at both Methven & Queenstown. We were skiing at Mt Hutt, Remarkables & Coronet Peak, I bought two 9 days ski pass for around NZ$1100 online and kids under 6 are free. So the price is not that bad, however, the ski filelds are needed to be discussed a little bit further.

Mount Hutt
The access road to the ski field is not paved but they have a service station down at the bottom to help people who are driving to put up chains on the wheels at a charge of NZ$10 including unmount service. If the weather is bad, the mountain will be closed. With our 5 days stay at Methven (the town nearby Mt Hutt), the mountain has been closed for 3 days, so we went jet boating. The snow condition is OK, but NZ snow is comparartively wetter than Japan & Northern America. So, the snow is quite packed and harder.

Remarkables
The access road is 13km to the top and no service station. The road is the most scariest one when compared with the 3 ski filelds. So, the ski field is least crowded, the view is quite nice up there. It will take 45-60 minutes driving from Queenstown.

Coronet Peak
The most popular ski field in the Queenstown area which takes only 20 minutes to get there, the access road is safe and well paved. Nice view, good run from the top, a new hub including restaurant, locker area and upgraded lift chair system. A good place for beginners to learn skiing.

If you are planning to go skiing in NZ, Queenstown area is a good choice, as there are 4-5 ski fields within 60 minutes driving distance and the scenery is so nice. If the weather is bad on the mountains, there are still a lot of other activities in the area. Airport area has a shopping area with big supermarket. Steak, lamb, mussels are much cheaper than in HK. Of course, Australian and NZ wines are cheap too.

Over 31 inches of snowfall fell last Thursday (24th July) at Mt. Hutt, and that was more than road crews could handle, the access road to New Zealand's Mt. Hutt ski area was blocked.

There are now 80cm (31.5 in.) of fresh snow on the mountain and more snow are expected.

Just got back to NZ, although the weather is not very good. But really looking forward to the ski trip coming next week in South Island.:)
