I think for HK people, snowboard is more popular. For other countries and seems more young people like snowboard.
Any comment?

I know a few skiers that switched to snowboarding are now getting back to skiing.

There are so much more to skiing than riding - 'Freeskier' said that, not me !

Actually I am not sure how many snowboarders and skiers in HK, but I am pretty sure the snowboard advertisement is more than ski.

Talking to some ski instructors in France and Switzerland, they all said there have been increasing number of young people taking ski lessons last couple of seasons.

Skiing trend is on the way up again.:)

In the shop, the trend is that good experienced boarders are switching back to skiing or for the first time. Our SB department head has try and switched to skiing for the first time in his life and "loved it" and won't go back, according to him. As a absolute beginner, he is doing very well. We take him to the Black runs and managed very well; and getting better.

I am a "ski" person and tried snowboarding for the first time in March this year. Personally I find that snowboarding is easier to pick up than skiing. Anyway, I think it is also a fun sport to play on the snow.:) I will definately try again in the next season.

I watched some documentaries on ESPN sometimes ago, they said more young generations go for 'free skiing' in Europe.

Even in a well developed market like Japan, it seems skiers are far more than SBers...

Skiing is definitely becoming more popular - really because of freestyle. New carving skis have also helped. A lot of modern ski shape has come from snowboarding

兩樣我都覺唔同樂趣,兩樣我都喜歡,但現時想鍊snowboard好一點先,之後再加錬ski,但ski 錬花式當然比較難,錬得好就一樣咁有型。

i know both. i have a feeling that to have fun with snowboarding one really need to play tricks. with skiing one have the options of both playing tricks or high performance skiing. :)
What I see in quite a few ski resorts in Europe this year is more skier then snowboarder.

I also snowboard and ski.
To me, snowboard is easier to learn, ski is more difficult to master.
So nowadays, I ski more.

我兩樣都玩, 我個人就係SKI上手快, SNOWBOARD上手難好多, 剛剛過了的冬天我苦練SNOWBOARD, 所以進步了好多, 不過SKI不但無進步, 姿勢越來越衰。

I teach both ski and snowboard at ski school

To me, the learning curve for snowboard is a lot sharper than skiing. Once you get the basic sorted you will progress very fast

Skiing's learng curve is more like a ladder, you started pretty good, but then you plateau for a bit (wedge turn:1st plateau) then you learn how to turn starting with a wedge then finishing turn parallel (Wedge cristie: 2nd plato) after more practice you'll learn how to turn with both feet (Basic Parallel turn: 3rd plato) and so on and so on

There are a lot more to learn on 2 planks of wood than 1
