Just received a couple of DVDs ( 佐藤久哉 & 渡辺一樹)from a Japanese friend...

Quite pleasure to watch although I don't know the Japanese language...
It seems that the Japanese instructional skiing techniques are based on the SAJ curriculum.

Does anyone know if the SAJ are compatible to those in western countries like CSIA or PSIA? Also how does the Japanese well known skiers compared to the western countries?

Not familiar with SAJ, but the Japanese instructors are all great skiers. The Japanese were influenced by the Austrians since it was the Austrians that 'introduced' skiing into Japan.

Thus basically they ski 'close stance' like the Austrians, except when they carve or race.

Most Japanese are good mogul skiers and making good short turns. One reason could be that the mountain in Japan are 'smaller' and 'narrower'.

Japanese have good mogul skiers especially the women. However in the racing department, it is difficult to compete with the Europeon 'skiing nations'

CSIA and PSIA and even NZSIA are all similar.
