Just came back from Perisher Blue today...
I went skiing with my family at Perisher Blue from Thursday till Saturday. Due to insufficient snowfall, only the Perisher Front Valley and partial Blue Cow area were opened. Simggins Holes was currently closed.
Perisher Front Valley
Three lifts are open in front valley - Village 8 chairlift, Ski carpet and Mitchell T-bar. The front valley is wide and had good snow cover with snowmaking. On Thursday and Friday, there were not too many people; therefore, the lift queuing was reasonable. On Saturday, the Village 8 and Mitchell T-bar were crowded with too many people, so need to be a little patient.
Blue Cow
Only two lifts were open in Blue Cow - Easy Starter Double Chair and pony rope tow. Good snow cover in Blue Cow. Only one green run was opened in Blue Cow. But if you don't mind the slope is relatively gentle, there are fewer people than in Perisher front valley. Thus, a good place for family and also for starters. Currently, Blue Cow can be accessed by Ski-Tube only. It is free of charge between Front Valley and Blue Cow if you hold the day mountain pass.
Driving Tips
For those who will go to NSW snowy mountain...please remember to bring tyre chain as the weather in the mountain changed rapidly. When we drove up to mountain on Thursday morning, the weather was fine in Jindabyn, but got worsen on the way up the mountain. After entering the national park, snowing continued and the road condition was poor and all the 2-wheel vehicles must put on tyre chain at designated bays...only 4WD and AWD were exceptional. It is always a good idea to practise how to install the tyre chain below the snowline.
Just another reminder...there are no overnight parking in Perisher Blue, only day parking is allowed.
If anyone intends to ski in Perisher Blue for a few days, it is recommended to get locker hirel at the front valley to store the skis/snowboards and boots. It makes life much easier...
