Whistler 2009/10 season - Olympics year

Whistler already official opened and it is a pretty good start. Currently at 418cm and another 50+ coming.

Local mountains in Vancouver have pretty good snow coverage already due to the wet weather whole week long. However, only the bunny slopes are currently opened.

The concern usually isn't it being melt away, but wash away instead. There were years when we expect to see 100cm snow but ended up with 10cm of "rain". The rain really destroy the slope quick.

GTFish should still remember that. :P

Rain is not un-common in Whistler :(

A total of 194cm of snow has fallen in Whistler since last Sunday morning, making it the snowiest Novmeber on record at the resort.

All that snow has led to warnings of a high avalanche risk. The resort's website says: "Explosive and ski testing today on Whistler Mountain produced up to size two avalanches, with some natural avalanche activity also observed to have occurred during the storm."

While Cypress is struggling with snow, Whistler breaks its record snow fall for January. Base is at ~10meter. Games is ready and only 10 more days to go. :)

Is the auction of Whistler going ahead this month? :rolleyes:

The owner of Whistler (hedge fund Fortress Investment Group) has failed to make payments on a $1.7 billion loan. They bought the resort for $2.8 billion in 2006 and it was a pretty smooth sailing for them until the economic meltdown occured last year. :D

Fortress made a bad move back at 2006 anyway. It wasn't a smooth ride at all. it wasn't since last year all these happen.
