Skiing season in South Hemisphere is coming soon!

Coronet Peak is scheduled to open on Saturday 7 June.

Good 10cm blanketed the mountain of Coronet Peak, NZ overnight, and the snow continues to fall today.

Ski Area Manager Hamish McCrostie said snowmaking is scheduled to start next week following testing of the new system.

The New Zealand Snow Industries Federation (NZSIF) is urging skiers and riders to get their gear inspected, free of charge, before hitting the slopes this season.

Many people are injured unnecessarily each year on the slopes due to malfunctioning gear. NZSIF members throughout New Zealand are tackling the problem head-on with free snow equipment checks.

To get an equipment check, simply take your gear - skis, boards and boots - into an NZSIF member retailer identified by an NZSIF and equipment check sticker. Each item is inspected free of charge by a professional, and will help give you peace of mind when you hit the slopes.

A full list of NZSIF members is available online at www.nzsif.org.nz.

But, when does this offer expire?
