With Immediate effect, U.S. Customs and Border Protection advised that for citizens and eligible nationals of U.S. Visa Wavier Program Countries (VWP) can apply advance authorization to travel to the United States through Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). '

Simply log onto the ESTA Web site at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov (https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/) and complete an on-line application in English. The web-based system will request travelers to answer questions that typically requested on a paper I-94 form.

As of Jan 12, 2009, all travelers under U.S. Visa Waiver Program must obtained an Electronic System Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to boarding a carrier to travel by air to the U.S. Failure to do so will result denied boarding by carriers.

For additional information regarding the U.S. VWP and ESTA, please visit www.cbp.gov/esta (http://www.cbp.gov/esta)

Well, HK or China are not on the ESTA list.

Currently, there are 27 countries on the Visa Waiver Programme list (Andorra, Iceland, Norway, Australia, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Italy, San Marino, Belgium, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Denmark, Luxembourg, Spain, Finland, Monaco, Sweden, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, New Zealand and United Kingdom)

You are correct that China and HK are not on the list.

Do you think Afganistan is thinking of joining this programme?

Haha, maybe that's why the US requires an extra application process~

I'm surprised Canada is not on the list, they are neighbours!
