Some of last digit indicates region, Txxx5 can be found in Canada and Brazil, Txxx2 is UK model for PMR446 Personal Mobile Radio 8 channels on 446MHz, Txxx8 is Chinese model 20 channels on 409MHz. T5725 looks alike T5720 and sounds like "T5720 Canadian version" but functions are identical to T5420.
First 2 digits appears to be identification of case design... NOT! T56xx has 3 different housings.

T6200 is an US model that use 462/467 MHz band, it will not be compatible to any HK legal Walkie, which use 409 MHz band.

If the model number of other Talkabout ends with a "0", it is highly likely that they can communicate. Read the table of my last quote for detail.

Am I correct in saying that there are no free radio frequencies in Japan (ie: it is illegal to use walkie talkies)?

Thanks!

Yes, it is illegal to use walkie talkie in JP without holding a license. Some old posts below.

Alternatively, rent a JP phone in airport, airtime is cheaper than roaming and stronger signal than 3G even in mountain.
