Recon announced today that they will partner with Uvex, Alpina and Briko for their next generation of GPS-based heads-up displays.

Unlike the implementation with Zeal, the new platform will fit into the partners' Recon-Ready goggles' frames as an add-on feature. Transcend gives real-time feedback to the user via a micro LCD display including speed, latitude/longitude, altitude, vertical distance travelled, total distance travelled, chrono/stopwatch mode, a run-counter, temperature and time. It is also the only pair of goggles that boast GPS capabilities, USB charging and data transfer to the post-processing software.

Recon Instruments' next generation of technology will utilise Android operating system and will include new features. It will be sold separately from the goggles and "snap fit" into partner Recon-Ready Uvex, Alpina and Briko brands. Users will be able to navigate through the state-of-the-art interactive widescreen LCD in real-time with the use of a wireless remote which can be strapped, clipped, or fastened to the body in any number of positions.

Zeal Optics has revealed its newest model of goggles with a built-in global positioning system, the Z3.

The Z3 GPS has enlarged polarized in-molded anti-fog lenses that not only cut 99.9 percent of glare from the sun and slopes to reduce eye fatigue, but also automatically adjust to varying light levels, going from a clear tint in low light, to a dark rose/brown tint in brighter light.

Z3 GPS is armed with technology that provides real-time access to performance statistics including speed, altitude, temperature, and time during your run down the slopes. The monitor inside the goggles has been redesigned to be less obtrusive. The system has a stopwatch and chrono mode and runs with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a seven-hour run time.
