People said the cherry blossom in Vancouver is even better than Japan. I never visit Japan during this time so I can't compare.
Here is a picture that I steal (online) to show u what we had. It is really warm this year and everything comes early for like a whole month.

Brian,
Can't see the your photos.
I have seen both cherry blossom (CB) in Vancouver and Japan.
I do agree that Vancouver's CB is prettier because basically in Japan the CB is very light in color (white to whitish pink).
However the red-leaves (Autumn) are very pretty in Japan with all kinds of shades.
Hmm, pictures didn't show up.. let's try again.
The cherry trees in Vancouver was a gift from Japan long time ago and they grow pretty well here. We have two kind of trees here, one will darker pink color and the other one is whitish, like the one show in the pictures. These two flowers come in a slightly different time, usually the darker pink first. However, this year, the whitish one take place first.
It is just beautiful when the whole street is covered by the pink flowers.

You have a very good point there.
snsleung, how's life lately. :) Your point is so right, cherry blossom is just everywhere here. My parents have a small tree in their backyard. Below is a picture my wife took yesterday, just 3 blocks away from my home.

Nice living environment! For the past few days, the air pollution index was very high in HK :-( Wish our HK government would do something to give us back the blue sky!

其實櫻花樹難唔難種呢? 上星期o系花虛見有得賣,但如果過左開花季節咁 por 樹會點呀? 光禿禿得番d樹枝?
(from what I know in Vancouver) It is just a green tree when the flower is gone. The blooming period is pretty short 2-3 weeks once a year. And all the flower come at the same time which make it so beautiful. Winter time, all the leaves fall.
My parent's backyard has one and we never pay special attention to it. So I consider it must be easy to take care but I also think that's Vancouver weather helped.
I saw cherry blossom in Kyoto / Nara last year.
Many Japanese opine that it is even more beautiful when the leaves of the cherry tree start falling, with petals on the ground. I tend to agree with them. :icon_good:
I wonder if I should plant one in the garden. It looks beautiful with flowers and when the flowers gone, I don't mind having a green tree. But "Winter time, all the leaves fall." 咁好似好冷清好 sad.:smile_tear:
