This one for Helibelly and George:-

For only US$100,000, you could have your own season-long heli-ski pass.

The Platinum Heli-Skiing Season Pass has just launched by Great Canadian Heli-Skiing (GCH), and will allow the owner vertical access to some of the world's best powder skiing between Golden and Revelstoke (B.C.).

Passholders will have a personal powder concierge to keep them up-to-date with conditions and forecasts. The choice will be whether to heli-ski everyday or only on select days from December 26th to March 28th. The pass guarantees a seat on one of GCH's A-Star B2 Helicopters every day. :)

That's good deal for certain people. :D:D

I forgot who told me. When a certain special (read rich) people visit Whistler, they closed out a run for him and his bodyguard only. Freeskier may have more stories. :)

Actually, cost of the season pass is C$100,000, not US$.

Still, it works out C$1,075 per day, not cheap for most people - but the season pass is transferrable. :D

Just read a report that a skier died Saturday from injuries sustained when an avalanche swept his heli-skiing party down Alice Mountain near Terrace, British Columbia last Thursday.

The operators of Northern Escape Heli-Skiing, based in Terrace, triggered an avalanche Thursday at the 4,500-foot elevation of Alice Mountain. The slide released two sympathetic avalanches that caught four members of the heli-skiing party. Two were able to ski out of the avalanche to safety. One was only partially buried in the slide, estimated at 100 meters wide by 100 meters long, but the victim was buried for approximately 10 minutes before being rescued.

The helicopter transported the rescued skier to Terrace Mills Memorial Hospital before being transferred to a medical facility near Seattle where he later died on Saturday. The cause of death was not immediately indicated. :(

If you want to ski DEEP powder you should come to Niseko! I just have a great waist deep powder day with my clients. Hopefully tomorrow too. Who needs Heli skiing? Well, unless you enjoy the heli ride more than skiing down.

After 16 years of providing Alaskan skiing experiences, Valdez Heli-Camps (VHC) has canceled its 2012 ski season, and the prospects for future operations appear bleak.

Last year was the worst snow season on record in Valdez, resulting in numerous cancelled reservations that impacted the company's bottom line. At the same time, company officials had significant financial outlays for equipment upgrades and other financial commitments. Plans for year-round diversification and a consequent financial recovery fell apart over the summer.
