Saikee, I have just finalized my travel arrangement for Vail/Beaver Creek this coming winter. I will be there for 3 weeks with a SUV.
Any recommendation on accommodation in Beaver Creek & Keystone area?

Mike,

From your previous post you could be staying at friend's accommodation at Beaver Creek. If that is the case you could do Vail comfortably in a day trip as it is only 12 miles apart. You can cover Copper Mountain too from beaver Creek with a distance of 29 miles.

I found it easier to stay at a cheap hotel called Roost Lodge, US$609 for 6 nights, in Vail.

I covered the Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapahoe, Copper Mountain and Loveland by staying in Dillon which is 31 miles from Vail. There are plenty of accommodations there as Silverthorne is a big town. I stayed in a Day Inn paying US$873 for 8 nights.

Accommodation for Aspen is a lot more expensive so I chose to stay at Carbondale which is 74 miles from Vail but is less than 30 miles to Buttermilk the best location to access the 4 resorts of Aspen. Carbondale is used by many skiers competing in events in Aspen and the road is fast and uninterrupted in the morning. Aspen is well worth a visit if you are in Colorado. The Day's Inn in Carbonale cost US$ 446 for 4 nights

With the exception of Loveland and to a certain extent Arapahoe all the above resorts are premium class skiing destinations well worth visiting at least once in one's life time.

Both Arapahoe and Breckenridge has peaks higher than the highest in Europe.

I did not ski Steam Boat and Winter Park but drove to the latter to visit it on a rest day.

The distance in miles I kept for my last trip there are
Dillon Steamboat 153 (long way)
Dillon Steamboat 92 (short way but not sure if road open)
Dillon Winter Park 56
Dillon Breckenridge 14
Dillon Copper Mountains 13
Dillon Breaver Creek 43
Dillon Vail 31
Dillon Keystone 6
Dillon Arapahoe basin 12
Dillon Loveland 12
Dillon Denver airport 87
Dillon Carbondale 105
Dillon Steam boat 91

Vail Dillon 31
Vail Carbondale 74
Vail Breckenridge 44
Vail Copper Mountains 17
Vail Breaver Creek 12
Vail Vail 0
Vail Keystone 37
Vail Arapahoe basin 43
Vail Loveland 43

Carbondale Vail 74
Carbondale Aspen 27
Carbondale Snowmass 32

My way of finding accommodation is to "Google Map" the resort first and then type "hotels". By investigate the hotels on Google map and using booking.com etc one can find/book accommodation quickly.

Saikee, Many thanks for the info.

I will be staying at my friend's condo at Westin Riverfront in Avon most of the time. Just thinking whether it is worth staying at Keystone area on the days I ski at Keystone/Breckenridge/Loveland.

Mike,

If you are there for a few weeks consider spending a few days in Aspen.

Been to some exclusive resorts like St Moritz, Zermatt, Gstaad, St Anton, Ischgl, Davos and Cortina Ampezzo. Aspen is definitely in a setting for skiers with deep pockets.

Just drive to Buttermilk to ski there or take the bus to either Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highland or Snowmass. The place was so relax that I found people were playing guitars and singing in Snowmass under the sun and I was handed a free coffee when going into a chairlift station in Aspen Mountain. You get a distinct feeling that the locals welcome you because the tiny number of visitors. The locals are well off and friendly while the place is very well kept.

Another tip I would offer is after a day's skiing I would usually drive to the next nearby resorts to survey the surrounding before returning to the hotel. The next morning I know exactly where to go and park.

Also you will no doubt be familiar with the Epic ski seasonal pass which is very good value for money for $689 for the entire season. For unrestricted access it covers 5 summit resorts of Beaver Creek, Vail, Breckenridge, Ketstone and Arapahoe Basin. You can get a big discount in Copper Mountain too by telling them you are an Epic ski holder. For Loveland and Aspen you need to buy new passes. The summit resorts have been charging about $100 per day so without the season ticket you will be much worse off.

Saikee,

Many thanks again for the tips.

I have already bought the Epic Pass - excellent value.

I also heard good things about Aspen. A friend of mine is a ski guide at Aspen with an Australian outfit. Unfortunately, he will be be gone by the time I arrive.

Another place I would like to go is Telluride, unfortunately it is on the wrong side of Colorado. It would be a long drive from Vail.

Just returned from a 3 weeks ski trip to Vail/Beaver Creek, so I can update the original posting which is almost 3 years old.

Vail - There is no free parking in Vail. The indoor car park at Cascade on weekdays is the cheapest - US$15 per day. At weekends, there might be valet parking available at The Arrabelle for about $50 a day. The mountain restaurant in mid-Vail is usually fully booked for lunch, so you need to make reservation many days in advance.

Beaver Creek - free car parks are far away from Beaver Creek ski slopes but there are frequent shuttle bus service taking you to Beaver Creek or Landing. Alternative is to park at Avon and take the gondola from Westin to Landing and ski over to Beaver Creek.

Breckenridge - paid car park is by the gondola. Beckenridge is a quite high in altitude, the upper part is above the tree line and can be very windy. The locals call it Beck-in-fridge.

Keystones - Free car park by the chair lifts available. Nice skiing terrain.

Arapahoe Basin - Not as commercialized as the above resorts, base is at 10,780 ft and the summit over 13,000 ft. The car park is free and by the chair lifts. Strongly advised to drive up with an AWD vehicle.

Copper - that is OK. A bit spread out.

Yes, but North Frontage Road by Safeway is on the wrong side of I70 (away from the ski slope) and is miles away. I rather pay and get on the mountain straight away.
FYI, Arrabelle at Vail Square, valet parking on Sunday is $50. The Cascade covered parking is cheaper (about $20). Both have easy access (2 minutes walk) to the ski lifts. Convenience comes at a price.
