Sorry for slightly off track. I m seeing skiing is being depicted a safer sport. So I have to raise a warning.

However, snowboarding is more volunerable to accidents. Therefore, full protection gear is necessary.
Just a small reminder. When fully padded snowboarding is in fact quite safe unless the boarder is playing beyound his own ability. In skiing there IS NO WAY to protect ACL tearing yet. Doesnt matter how slow or fast you are skiing. The injury rate is getting better though. Those who want their children to learn skiing probably should aware of this fact. Besides I heard that children have to wait till they grow up before ACL rebuilt surgery can be performed. There are many ways one could get caught. More information below:

Just out of curiosity. Do you have any figures on how many skiers (percentage wise) had injury related to ACL?

Just made a quick search. Here is what I found. Dont know if its authentic.

----------- direct copy
It’s estimated that there are more than 525,000 ski injuries per year. As many as 85,000 to 100,000 of these incidents represent injuries to the ACL.

Thanks.
I also found out, using internet search, that according to certain articles published, Alpine skiing is pretty safe and popular, but on any given day, 3 to 4 out of 1,000 skiers will sustain an injury requiring medical attention.

Falls are the biggest cause of skiing injury, accounting for about 75% of all injuries. About 20% of injuries are caused by collisions and some injuries occur on the ski lifts.

MCL (knee ligament) sprain is the most common knee injury in skiers. This normally happens with beginners who twist a knee at slow speeds. It can also occur by 'catching an edge' at speed. The ACL sprain is also common, when the skier falls backwards and the leg extends in front and also from 'catching an edge'.

Femur and tibia fractures tend to occur in violent falls or collisions. Normally these happen more with poor snow conditions, such as hard pack ice or crud.

Upper limb injuries account for about 30% of all ski injuries. In fact, thumb joint sprain is the second most common injury after MCL sprain. Upper limb fractures are rare, but shoulder joint dislocation is the second most frequent upper limb injury. However, with the rise in snow boarding, broken wrists are now more common.
