pivoting into a carve = brushed carve?
pivot/steering into a bottom of the turn momentary carve engagement = the most like warren mirrer did?

What I meant is to see what Nick is referring to when he said "not so" and "less so"

Did he mean to say that 'if pivoting into a carve' then rebound is NOT muted?

And on the other move, it is also LESS muted?

i guess you r right. actually i think the bottom half controls the rebound. the first half creates the rebound.

Normally when one says it is 'not so' in referring to the previous sentence, it means that it is opposite to what the previous sentence says.

I have asked him to clarify this on the forum, and will see what his answer is.

this becoming very entertaining as english does more often than not confuse things for me. but the logic does leads to what i think is right.

It means from pivoting during initiation to engaging edge(s) to carve during completion of a turn (a bit like drifting toward the gate and carving out from the gate: slow in, fast out). This creates rebound effect.
Rebound will be less if change from carving at the beginning of a turn to pivoting/steering at the end.

Rebound is just a consequence after a quick release of pressure from the ski/board in right timing and direction. It is not recommend to ski or ride in this manner, but it is a good drill/exercise to sense the for/aft balance and active/passive pressure control.

This is the answer from Rick, Certified USSCA race coach (epicski.com):

In a turn that pivots directly into a carve, if it's done well, little speed is lost and strong ski bend and energy is taken into the bottom/end of the turn. Rebound energy does not drop off.

In a steered or pivot entry steered turn that contains just a breif carve engagement at the end of the turn, speed can reduced significantly, depending on the nature of the steering being done. A drop in speed reduces the ski loading forces present in the turn, and thus the potential rebound at the end of the turn.

Note: His "not so" refers to the previous sentence ("..and rebound is thus muted"). But, as it turns out, his "less so" refers to "not so" and not to his previous sentence. :)

skier - I glad that Rick did answer your question. So can I say the CSIA turns is basically a checking to turn short turn. It is not a bad thing since every coins have two sides. Rebound, while normally at higher angle, can put the skier into back seat and therefore more risky. Check turns at small edge angle converts the gravity into sideway momentum helps to slow down the turns and demands less need to push the upper body forward, which is a much more expertise technique, helps the skier decends slowly and comfortably. :)

btw can I ask what level is the guy skiing in the vid?
