BUT the comments on YouTube on this instructor's demo is bad
It is bad, that's why I hesitated to post it at first. But better than nothing, just to show the idea.

Also, it shows not all instructors are good.

I think this is a better video to show carving and railroad track:

For short turns, some turn with skis apart but with skis tuck together.
Is that just a personal preference or different skills are required?

Short turns with skis apart - where did you see that?

I mean a small parallel gap between 2 skis (the video before last), rather than a water-tight feets stick together (the last video).

Videos shown in previous postings already demonstrated "Railroad track" turn in response to your question (what is Railroad track turn) and what is short radius turn.

May be I didn't express myself well enough.
I mean there's a difference, or is there(?):

feet really, really tight together (#21) versus feet slightly apart (#13)

Nice short turns:

This one is more like freestyle mogulist short radius turn on groomed slope.

What McKay said is right, the short turns shown in posting #21 is not the usual short radius carving turn, it is more technical.

The skier in posting #13, his feet is pretty close together.

If you want to know about stance (ie. how far should the feet be apart) you can refer to the following:

I like Richard Berger's short turns.

I like him so much and I watch his skiing almost every night before I slept during the ski season and still watch him sometimes this summer days.

Just still can't ski 50% like him even on the groom.

As I am not a carver, I prefer the style of the Japanese skier (whoever he was) in Posting #21

Why do you think that is a Japanese skier ?

It was posted by APSI (The Australian Professional Snowsport Instructors), so most probably it is an Australian skier.

I think the skiing is similar to Richard Berger's, but Berger's skiing is more elegant, and he is very much adored by the Japanese.
