Why do you think that is a Japanese skier ?

It was posted by APSI (The Australian Professional Snowsport Instructors), so most probably it is an Australian skier.

I think the skiing is similar to Richard Berger's, but Berger's skiing is more elegant, and he is very much adored by the Japanese.
My typing mistake, I meant posting #21, Not 13.

#21 should be a japanese skier, probably a video by Ski Journal or something. The Aussie just "borrow" it.

Mike, no one ski short turns like that except WC style mogul skiers. They practice it like that on groom runs and eventually apply it on moguls. It is very different from Richard Burger's or other technical style skiing. Even the out-fit is different, see the patterns on the knees, that is a typical WC mogul outfit. Probably to show their lower body performance. IMHO, it is a different genre from "Our" skiing.

Peter, what you said is absolute right, the white patch in the knee area of his ski pants gives the clue that he is very likely a mogul skier and the type of short turns he demonstrated are those performed in mogul competition and they are NOT carving turns.

In my opinion, even this type of turns is mostly used by WC Mogul skiers, it does not have to be restricted and applied only to moguls. I cannot see why us, recreational skier, cannot ski like that (at a slower speed) on piste.

Because the stance is different, the length of poles is different, the skis are different, their turns depend heavily on pivoting but not their edges thus they are not as performance as normal technical skiing, you can feel it esp on icy groom runs. If you want to ski like that, you have to change your form totally, with straight back, close stance. If you think you can ski slower in this way, try it on a icy run. If you think this kind of style is efficient, try it out on a powder day. Why there are no recreational skier ski like that? there must be some reasons.

Different techniques on different situations, one has to be adaptable and choose wisely. If someone decided to ski like that on an icy piste, then good for him.
What I am saying, yes, this technique are mostly performed by mogul skiers, but it does not have to be restricted for WC use only.
In my opinion, there is no single technique that will enable you to ski all conditions. When you ski down from the top of the mountain, do you use the same technique even on different terrains.
Skiing is for you to enjoy, you choose the way you want to ski.

That's Paul who work in NBS in Niseko. I saw him once skiing the Super course moguls and he was so good. I went over and comment his skiing and we chat a bit. Yes, he is in the national team and was in the interski 2011. IMO, he is better than many CSIA 4.
