December is still early season for skiing, to ensure good snow, you are better off going skiing in Hokkaido.
Personally, I think there is no point for you to go to Niseko nor Rusutsu, there are crowded and expensive. You can consider those smaller resorts such as Kokusai, Teine which are near Sapporro, Kiroro which is near Otaru. You can even consider Club Med in Sahoro. Club Med offers free ski instruction during your stay. |

Hello Mike,
Anyone know snow condition in Hakuba in early December (previous seasons)? I try to pre-book ski training at Happo-One or other training ski centre at Habuka. 2017-12-07 (Tue) to 2017-12-17 (Sun) x4 day group training or 2017-12-13 (Tue) to 2017-12-11 (Sun) x4 day group training I am at Level 3 (wish to refine smooth s-curve parallel turning at intermediate slope; currently poor habit built-up on "zag-zig" parallel turn and cannot gain speed on slopes. BH By the way? I am an non-serious skier, (just own a personal ski boot) Just thinking about to invest a pair of downhill ski and want to know an significant different between personally ski and rental ski? I still hesitate to invest a pair of ski because they are too long for travelling by air (also additional fee around $200 per trip for extra long baggage too) |

https://www.skiclub.co.uk/japan/reso...istorical-snow Owning your own skis is nice but you have to maintain and service your pair of skis regularly. For rental skis, the quality of the skis carried by the rental company can be good, but also can be very poor. The choice can be limited, so the skis might not be suitable to you (ie. the flex can be too soft or too hard). Please refer to the following threads on choosing the right skis: http://hkssa.net/showthread.php?t=4893 http://hkssa.net/showthread.php?t=60466 http://hkssa.net/showthread.php?t=59854 http://hkssa.net/showthread.php?t=60404 Travelling with skis can be troublesome, because skis are heavy, so you have to keep an eye on the weight when you do your packing. FYI, I have never been charged by CX for carrying my skis. | |

12 月初去白馬滑雪?可能玩滑草機會大d!
去本州滑雪最好一月初或打後. If you want to go in early December, as advised by Mike, Hokkaido is a better bet but ....I wouldn't risk this. Better go to Hokkaido after mid Dec. As for owning a pair of ski, if you always go skiing with a friend, I don't see there are much problems because you have more flexibility in playing around with the baggage rules. Of course different airline has different baggage rules. Currently, baggage rules of Cathy, ANA and Korean Air are OK. JAL is marginal. HK express is fair that you pay for your own baggage including sport equipment. However, baggage rules change from time to time. Check it out by yourself. If you buy skis online, you may want to check out those UK or Europe online stores. They normally can exclude VAT, price are good and the shipping cost is very reasonable. Generally, buying from Europe or UK online store is approx 50% or more cheaper than buying from US online stores. For example, I bought my Dynaster Speed Zone 14pro including original bindings at HKD4,300 including shipping from a UK online shop. I think you need to pay double if buying form the US online shops. I bought my Atomic Vantage 90CTI with Salomon STH2 WTR13 binding from a Germany online shop at around HKD4500 including DHL shipping! |
