Les Deux Alps

Mike or Saikkee or someone else,

How can I go to Les Deusx Alps? I guess Geneva is the airport I should go to. Some one said Lyon and then take a cab. I have never been to Lyon and it may be an opportunity to exploer there. Les Deux Alps website mentioned taking TGV from Paris. That's sounds attractive. Besides sight seeing and dining in Paris, it's not difficult to get cheap air ticket to Paris. But I am afraid it's too much hassle changing trains and taking luggages for 2 persons and ski bag going up and down stairs of footbridges and tunnels and crossing streets. etc.

Last time I went there was over 20 years ago, so memory is fading. I remembered I flew to Grenoble, which is about 70km away. Lyon is further, about 160km away.

So, either fly or take the train to Grenoble. TGV from Paris is about 3 hours. There is regular shuttle bus running between Grenoble and Les Deux Alpes.

The L2A is in the valley starting from Glenoble so I would think that would be the nearest airport.

AFAIK there is no train connection into this valley. The bottom of L2A is a reservoir and there are 10 hairpin bends before one can reach the top where L2A situates.

L2A is next door to L'Alps D'Huez or LDH which has 250km piste. L2A has 200km piste and is the easier of the two. LDH has 20 hairpin bends to get to the top. LDH has the longest black run in the Alps and its another "Tunnel" black run is for the skiers like challenge. L2A has a glacier open during the summer so it is snow sure.

I was skiing these two resorts this March after coming from the top end of the valley which has the Italian/French Milky Way (400km piste) and the Serre Chevaier (another 250km piste resort).

Thanks Saikee!

It's connected to Milky Way & Serre Chevalier, so does that mean I can ski there from L2A? If so, how can I come back to L2A from there?

Seems flights to Grenoble is limited, at least not easy if I am flying from Hong Kong.....

Yes, Grenoble (or Chambery) should be the closest airports and there are buses going to Les Deux Alps from there.

As a last resort, take a taxi.

Get a connecting flight from Paris or London. I hope you are not expecting to fly direct from HK to Grenoble non-stop.

HKS,

L2A is 42 miles from Serre Chevalier which is 8 miles away from the nearest resort of Montgenevre. You can't ski from L2A to Chevalier.

Somewhere in the mid point is a resort called La Grave. It has no groomed run. Everything is off piste and it is probably one of the most challenging resorts in France. One can ski from L2A to La Grave and get a taxi back. You have to be an expert though to ski tight, steep path between rock.

That sounds familiar and expensive

They don't have flights from Paris. For London, only from Gatwick, Luton and Stansted.......

I will do that years ago, but not now. Since my last ski trip in Europe in 2007 with my long missed comrades, I am no longer physically fit to do thiings like that. The last time we did that, it costs us much money just for the taxi to get back. Even though it's shared by 4 of us. And the time required is 3 hours at rally racing speed and condition.

Yes, I remembered I caught the flight from Gatwick to Grenoble. Personally, I do NOT like Gatwick. I heard Stansted is OK though.

From Paris, just take the TGV.

There are regular coaches (airport to airport) and trains (need to change trains) going from Geneva to Grenoble and it takes about 2-2.5 hours. Just search on Google.
Or Paris is a better choice flying from HK with a daily three-hour train going to Grenoble.
The overall transfer is going to take long.. wow, you really want to go to Les Deux Alpes.
I don't think I'd be too keen to fly from London and get connecting flights if I were you. However, I got to admit that I sort of like Gatwick... by London standard. All the London airports are quite awful anyway (don't know about the City airport, but I've flew in and out of every single one of the terminals of the other four airports within the past three year)

I'm sure it's a good resort. The comment is merely out of my admiration on your determination to go there despite the relatively difficult transfer.
Lazy person like me probably will just go for somewhere with easy transfer from Geneva...
